Love Freely, Laugh Genuinely, Eat Colorfully

Traveling and eating healthy used to be a challenge for me.  I have always been on a restricted diet (many foods upset my stomach, until I started eating very clean).  So, traveling with me may have not always been that pleasurable once my hanger set in.  Haha!

I have learned over the years how to be smart about traveling.  Whether you are traveling by car, or plane, pack healthy snacks ahead of time to bring with you:

  • Fresh Fruits
  • Nut Mixes
  • Whole Grain Muffins with Nut Butters
  • Cucumbers (washed and cut)
  • Carrots (washed and peeled)
  • Homemade Kale Chips
Pack ready to eat foods.  I am not sure why I did not know this, but I never knew that you could bring your own food on an airplane.  I never ate the snacks they offered so I would just starve and be a grouch, haha.  Now, I pack healthy snacks with me, which also helps save money because we all know how expensive food is at the airport and there isn't really much of a selection.  I pack a small ice pack with my food to keep it cold.  When I travel by car, I pack an insulated cooler with ice packs and ready to eat foods.

Another tip is that you can often request for a small refrigerator in your hotel room (think college size tiny, haha).  I found that for me, that is helpful, because I scope out the health food stores near by so that I can buy a few items and fill it in my fridge.  That way when I need a healthy snack or need a meal quickly, I am all set.  Did you know that some areas you can order from some grocery stores online and they will deliver to you, even your hotel!

Lastly, I always look up what food options will be around me so that I can find healthy options for me, especially as a Vegetarian.  Be sure to follow me on Instagram @Oh_So_Lia to find out some of the best food places when traveling!

Again, planning ahead is always super important to make it easier on you!
